They Weighed Less

[Verse 1] We started with a shovel, then brought out the pick. Big stones came up with the dirt. Stone to one side, gravel to the other, dirt piled farther back. Some broke under the pick. [Verse 2] Farther down, the pick had no room to swing. We changed to a pointed steel bar. The ground gave way a little at a time. Damp sand at the bottom. [Instrumental Turn] [Verse 3] The one-meter rings were too much to move. So we used half-meter blocks. Two sides already open. They weighed less. Four went down, two stacks of two. We drilled the closed faces, one hole at a time. Concrete dust settled on our shoes. [Instrumental Turn] [Verse 4] She was there when we poured some water in. Not much. Just enough to watch. It went through the gravel and disappeared. We told her the well was magic. [Short Instrumental Pause] [Outro] She leaned over and looked again.
