02 - Angel Moons - These Frozen Tears
[Strings, 12 bars] [Instrumental] (Intro] [Verse 1] Born innocent, alas, this child of man, In northern lands, where icy winters span. Where forebears, steeped in spirits' wicked haze, Did beat their wives and children in a daze. [Verse 2] This lad, he sought to shun that cruel design, "No axe I'll buy, nor drink the devil's wine, Lest I, like them, my very soul consign." [Verse 3] The snowdrifts beckon, whispering of ease, But he would break the chains of destinies. Yet work he finds not, though he seeks with care, And despair's dark hand doth drive him to despair. Thus, doth the king's own spirit rise again, And lordly airs infect the hearts of men, Towards the tavern, where the spirits dwell. [Verse 4] Despair it drives a man to madness' brink, When frost doth claim the harvest, grain by grain, From out the cold earth, silent and stark, A chilling eye doth watch, with cruel remark, As the axe is raised, with purpose grim and plain. [Verse 5] From earthen mounds, where ancestors do lie, Proud fathers watch their sons beneath the sky. Unemployment's blight, the drink, the axe's sway, The family's plight, the snow, the final fray. [Verse 6] This land of thousand mournful melodies, Where souls may flee to countless lakeside leas. A juniper-clad folk, whose self-pity knows no bounds, Nor reason's rule, nor law's restraining rounds. Their songs, where life's best chances drown and fade, And heaven's gates remain forever stayed. From depths of dark despair, their tales unfold, A tragic truth, in melodies of old. [Violin solo] [Fade out]
