Canticle of the Inquisition
Is he properly positioned in relation to the shooter and the shooting angle? Does he quickly adjust his depth, inside or outside the crease? Does he anticipate correctly, or does he react too late? Are his lateral movements explosive, fluid, and controlled? Does he consistently return to center after a lateral movement? Does he lose balance during rapid cross-ice passes? Does he freeze the puck when necessary to calm the play? Does he direct rebounds toward safe areas? Does he allow too many second chances in the slot? Does he favor simple, efficient saves over unnecessary spectacular stops? Are his hands active and precise, glove and blocker? Is his butterfly position stable, mobile, and well synchronized? Does he read plays effectively behind the net? Does he communicate clearly with his defensemen? Does he quickly recognize screens, deflections, and cross-seam passing plays? Does he know when to play the puck and when to refrain? Does he simplify the game for his team, or does he complicate it? How does he respond immediately after allowing a goal? Does the previous goal affect his performance on the following sequence? Is he able to mentally reset after a mistake? Is he more effective when facing a high volume of shots, or when he is lightly tested? Is he reliable at the start of the game, at the end of periods, and in critical moments? Does his performance decline after a poor collective sequence? Does he project a calm presence, or a perceptible nervousness? Do the defensemen play with greater confidence in front of him? What is the true volume and quality of shots he faces? Is he frequently subjected to screens, broken plays, or odd-man rushes? Does the team effectively protect the area in front of him? Is he being judged on a short, emotional stretch, or on a meaningful sample? Would he perform better within a different defensive system? Does his style align with the identity and structure of the team? Is he being asked to be a constant savior, or a reliable stabilizer? Does he elevate the team’s level of play, or must he be constantly protected by it?
