[Verse] He looked middle-aged With a neat little grey beard He was in a dark suit and Tom Ford shoes Said he was going to a meeting the next day He knew me before I knew him Shook my hand and invited me to sit We were on a plane Some rainy September morning The last day of my being [Pre-Chorus] I met God on a plane to New York He looks great for a man his age [Chorus] He knew what was on my mind He’s not good at explaining, but he tried My life flashes by And we are on the last leg Soon we will begin our descent The final call for me to pray [Verse] He looked sophisticated With a pair of deep-set eyes He was in a dark suit and Tom Ford shoes Said he was going to a meeting the next day He knew me before I could speak Shook my hand and invited me in We were on a plane Some rainy September morning The last day of my drinking [Pre-Chorus] I met God on a plane to New York He looks great for a man his age [Chorus] He knew what was on my mind He’s not good at explaining, but he tried My life flashes by And we are on the last leg Soon we will begin our descent The final call for me to pray [Bridge] Hey man Why so solemn? Hey man I get you I know what you’re trying to do So would you chill a little? Have a drink Relax and Rock ’n’ roll [Pre-Chorus] I met God on a plane to New York He looks great for a man his age [Chorus] He knew what was on my mind He’s not good at explaining, but he tried My life flashes by And we are on the last leg Soon we will begin our descent The final call for me to pray [Outro] I met God on a plane to New York I met God on a plane to New York I met God on a plane to New York
