[hook, female singing] Walking in a house of mirrors Wishing things could be more clearer Talking to myself this evening Wishing on a star to save me I’m in a Ah ah ah ah I’m in a Ah ah ah ah I’m in a house of mirrors House of mirrors [male rap] First thing I do in the morning is stare onto a mirror When the screen is black I can see my eyes look back at me clearer But I turn on its power, it shows me whatever I want A lantern for my soul To guide me through the world I used to think of the future when I was ashamed of how I looked Thought I would be satisfied If I matched requirements written in my book It gave motivation to strive The mirror showed me how I looked on the outside And I couldn’t escape it so I tried to change it I didn’t rest until I did But it didn’t fill the hole in my soul The light reflected off the mirror was shallow Hallow The last thing I do in the evening is turn off power to my lantern When I do it’s black screen is like a phantom Reminds me that the mirror is turned off The world is left in the dark But what replaces it is myself with my thoughts A highlight reel is replayed If things I’ve done and, maybe things I wish I would have said Victories and some regrets When I close my eyes I place my bet That tomorrow I’ll open them And lift up my head But will I roam again? Through a house of mirrors Stuck on repeat until I’m dead? [hook, female singing] Walking in a house of mirrors Wishing things could be more clearer Talking to myself this evening Wishing on a star to save me I’m in a Ah ah ah ah I’m in a Ah ah ah ah I’m in a house of mirrors House of mirrors [male rap] Some mirrors in this house are stretched and in shapes designed to never look nice When I look into my lantern everyone’s smile is like they are living in paradise Maybe some are at that moment but we all know that we put our best foot forward for photos that are chosen Mirrors that compare ourselves to others are like staring into a lake that is frozen I often grasp for happiness that is make believe If I see others have it then surely it can be for me But what I don’t see is their pain, they might be struggling Hurting on the inside and wanting to capture a moment of happiness on the outside in a glass That when powered up they themselves can look back [bridge, female singing] House of mirrors House of mirrors Walking down this hall it’s clear Outside the light shines realer Light shines realer Goodbye mirror [male rap] Maybe I’ll be happier if spend less time staring into mirrors Or looking into my lantern to find pleasure Maybe I’ll find that reflections aren’t to be measured They can’t satisfy me, fill the hole in my soul What if mirrors are just second hand light Something that can’t be controlled? instead I need to remember where to make things right So tonight when I look at my lantern I’ll try to spend less time trying to compare myself to others And instead focus on things of good nature When I power off my lantern I’ll close my eyes and find it The source that said “Let there be light” In the beginning Who loves me regardless of how I look Or how my day went Or what I’m going through even when I’m in it This God gave me a mission A purpose Forgiveness And now I get to be a light and a witness To be a different kind of wanderer One that may still be in a house of mirrors But shines like a fixture Jesus, help me to love others like you did Be in the world but not of it To fix my eyes on you and run In the race of faith With every opportunity before us Give us your spirit, your grace, your truth Your love Without it, without your light, we are lost But with it we can walk, follow you One step at a time Even in this maze of life [hook, female singing] Walking in a house of mirrors Wishing things could be more clearer Talking to myself this evening Wishing on a star to save me I’m in a Ah ah ah ah I’m in a Ah ah ah ah I’m in a house of mirrors House of mirrors
