[Intro, Extremely Close-Mic, Wondering] Okay... I know the universe is big. Everyone knows that. But I don't think I actually understand what "big" means anymore. Because every time I imagine something enormous... there's something bigger. [Verse I] I'm standing on Earth. A whole planet beneath me. Oceans. Continents. Mountains. Cities stretching beyond what my eyes can see. Earth already feels enormous. But pull away... and it becomes a sphere floating in darkness. Pull farther. Earth becomes a dot. The Moon draws closer beside it. Keep going. The planets gather around the Sun. The Solar System becomes something impossibly small against the distance beyond. And somehow... I've barely left home. [Pre-Chorus] So pull back farther. Make the Sun another point of light. Put it among stars too numerous for me to picture one by one. And then tell me... we're still nowhere near the biggest thing. [Chorus] BIGGER THAN BIG, farther than far, beyond every distance I've learned how to imagine. Every time I pull away, something enormous becomes small. BIGGER THAN BIG, and I'm somewhere inside it all. One mind, on one world, around one star, looking into everything and trying to understand... how can everything be this damn big? [Female Throat Singing, Deep, Expansive] [Verse II] Our Sun becomes another star among hundreds of billions in the Milky Way. Try holding that number inside your head. I can't. So pull away again. The stars blur together. Spiral arms appear. Our entire galaxy finally comes into view. Something so enormous light needs thousands of years just to cross portions of it. And yet... the Milky Way isn't everything. Not even close. Pull back again. Now our galaxy becomes another light among other galaxies. [Pre-Chorus] And that's where my sense of scale starts falling apart. Because something can contain billions of stars... and still become a tiny point when I move far enough away. [Chorus] BIGGER THAN BIG, farther than far, beyond every distance I've learned how to imagine. Galaxies become lights. Lights become patterns. Everything enormous keeps becoming small. BIGGER THAN BIG, and I'm somewhere inside it all. One mind, on one world, around one star, inside one galaxy, trying to understand the size of everything. [Interlude, Celestial Expansion] [Verse III] Keep pulling away. Galaxies gather into groups. Groups gather into clusters. Across unimaginable distances, matter traces enormous structures through the darkness. Filaments. Voids. A cosmic web stretching farther than anything human hands could ever measure directly. And somewhere inside one tiny part of one enormous structure... there's the Milky Way. Inside that... our Sun. Orbiting it... Earth. And somewhere on Earth... me. [Female Throat Singing, Growing] [Bridge, Bare Close-Mic Voice] That's the part that gets me. Not that I'm small. I already knew that. It's how many times I can become smaller. Earth feels huge until I see the Solar System. The Solar System feels huge until I imagine the galaxy. The galaxy feels huge until galaxies fill the darkness. Then even those become structure inside something larger. Every time I think I've reached big... big becomes small. [Deep Female Throat Singing] [Verse IV, Vast, Contemplative] And eventually I reach another problem. The observable universe. Not necessarily everything. Just the part we can observe from here. A horizon created by distance, time, expansion, and how information can reach us. And after imagining something already too enormous for my mind to hold... I have to admit... there may be more. Maybe much more. Maybe reality extends far beyond anything we'll ever see. And suddenly even the biggest thing I've ever imagined might only be the biggest thing I can observe. [Final Chorus, Immense, Emotional] BIGGER THAN BIG, farther than far, galaxies, clusters, filaments, worlds beyond counting. Every time I pull away, something enormous becomes small. BIGGER THAN BIG, and somewhere inside it all, another mind may look upward and wonder what I wonder. WHO IS THINKING? WHY AM I ME? IS THIS NOW? Maybe somewhere, somewhen, someone beneath another sky is trying to understand the same impossible scale. And neither of us may ever know the other existed. [Outro, Extremely Close-Mic, Almost Whispered] So I pull all the way back. As far as my mind can go. Then... I come home. Universe. Galaxies. Milky Way. Sun. Earth. Me. Still here. Still looking up. Still trying to fit something bigger than big... behind these tiny eyes. [Female Throat Singing, Fading Into Infinite Distance]
