[Verse 1 | Half-time 72 BPM feel | Fingerpicked acoustic guitar enters | Low and dry female alto] Dark coat buttoned, frost on the gate Bucket on my hip, I'm a year too late Bristles in my fist, moss across your name I scrub like the stone was the one to blame [Pre-Chorus | Upright bass enters | Claps double up] Faster than a thought, quicker than a prayer Something in me sorted the dark from the fair [Chorus | Foot stomps and kick drum | Driving 104 BPM | Lead and choir call-and-response] SCRUB the stone [Choir answers] Scrub it down RINSE the stone [Choir answers] Rinse it down Every word I owed you Running in the ground [Post-Chorus | Choir chant | Space between words] Scrub. Rinse. Light. Scrub. Rinse. Light. [Verse 2 | Drop back to half-time | Low Hammond organ | Dry female alto] Black on my shoulders like a bolted door Keeps the street from asking what the black is for Soap in the water, salt in my eyes Washing out the sorry and the late goodbyes [Pre-Chorus | Bass and claps build] The granite's shining, still I won't let go Like the stain was mine and the stone don't know [Chorus | Full stomp | Tambourine enters | Lead and choir call-and-response] SCRUB the stone [Choir answers] Scrub it down RINSE the stone [Choir answers] Rinse it down Every call I missed you Running in the ground [Post-Chorus | Choir chant | Space between words] Scrub. Rinse. Light. Scrub. Rinse. Light. [Stop | Full silence | Two seconds] [Bridge | Solo female alto | Almost spoken | Single sustained Hammond chord] Hold it. Hands still wet. Brush down on the gravel. Breathe. I came here thinking I was dirty I'm just someone who still loves you And love has nowhere left to go So it scrubs. [Final Chorus | Key lift to major | Full choir | Raw unrestrained vocal cry] LIGHT the flame [Choir answers] Light it now HOLD the flame [Choir answers] Hold it now Every love I owe you GLOWING on the ground [Outro | Stomp drops out | Brush on stone slows | Solo female alto, dry close-mic] Scrub. Rinse. Light. [Match strike | Silence] [End]
