Tudor Rickards’ The Winners at the Count by GM Jon
Were off to see the pantomime At its premiere tonight It’s all about a battle field And a monumental fight Contestants travelled from across the land To win the cherished prize Ambitious to achieve their goal Through honest truthfulness or lies Baron Bullfrog was the favourite Famed for his cunning and guile A Spaceman Bin was off the pace As his helmet always concealed his face A Spaceman Bin was off the pace As his helmet always concealed his face Before the result was even announced Baron Bullfrog declared sneeringly “I shall not attend to hear the decree Of the overwhelming triumph by me” “Because of my celebrity There’s someone who wants to murder me And also although it sounds conceited I won’t be seen with losers I’ve defeated” Although he supposes it sounds conceited He won’t be seen with losers he’s defeated Nobody likes such jeering winners Who call opponents mere beginners So, the other contenders at the count Came up with a plan to call him out As each of their names was being read out They raised voices in a collective shout As if each one had secured a win. And cheered most for the much-loved bin But when the Baron’s name was spoken The sound of their silence was not broken The message sent was loud and clear You are not the winner here The message sent was loud and clear You are not the winner here Now the pantomime is gone But the story it tells us lingers on Of glorious wins when in alliance Through acts of silence in defiance Though many such battles will take place In future times in a different space We will never forget the glorious win When the Bullfrog Baron lost to a bin
