Get Your Coat On, Spencer

1940s Hollywood musical comedy swing/jitterbug number, Full musical cast, Up-tempo big band dance tune at 168 BPM in G major with authentic Golden Age soundtrack style, Recorded like a 1940s studio orchestra using vintage mono technology, ribbon microphones, warm tube recording, limited frequency range, and natural room ambience, Live orchestra featuring bright brass section, clarinet lead fills, piano, upright bass, acoustic rhythm guitar, brushed snare, and light percussion, Playful male ensemble vocals with tight harmonies and call-and-response as friends jokingly convince shy Spencer to attend the local social hall dance, Female solo sections feature Kate warmly singing about preparing and volunteering at the same event, creating dramatic irony, Energetic, charming, humorous, and heartfelt with theatrical 1940s vocal phrasing, clear diction, and a full cast finale, No modern drums, synthesizers, electric guitars, pop production, or contemporary vocal effects

Spence, we got the gig this afternoon,
The floor's been swept and cleared.
The invitations all went out,
The big night's finally here.

The ladies will be arriving,
The fellows will be dressed,
And somehow you're still sitting there,
Like staying home is best.

You've got a decent suit, my boy,
It's hanging in your closet.
Take it from your ol' pal, Jimmy,
Get your shoes on; put a dollar in your pocket.

You can't spend every evening,
Watching the world go by.
Sometimes you have to join in,
And see what you might find.

Get your coat on, Spencer,
Get your coat on, please.
The band's already warming up,
The music's got a beat.

Get your coat on, Spencer,
You don't have to dance.
Just come and stand among us,
Give yourself a chance.

Get your coat on, Spencer,
Don't make us ask again.
We're only trying to get you out,
To spend some time with friends.

Get your coat on, Spencer,
Come along tonight.
You might be surprised at what you find,
Underneath those lights.

I've been here since the afternoon,
Helping set things right.
Arranging flowers, checking chairs,
Getting ready for tonight.

The tables all are covered,
The decorations are in place.
Kate will stand by the welcome desk,
To greet each smiling face.

We'll welcome all the neighbors,
We'll show them where to go.
We'll make sure everyone feels at home,
Before the music starts to flow.

A little time together,
A little laughter too.
Sometimes the smallest kindness,
Is the best thing you can do.

I like these little gatherings,
The moments people share.
A friendly word, a simple smile,
Can show somebody cares.

Every table has a story,
Every face a name.
And every little evening,
Never feels quite the same.

Spencer, you've got plenty of excuses,
We've heard them all before.
You're tired, you've got things to do,
You've got a hundred more.

But tomorrow you'll remember,
Another night went by.
So why not make a memory,
Instead of wondering why?

Get your coat on, Spencer,
Come on, don't be late.
The whole town's heading down there,
And they won't wait.

Get your coat on, Spencer,
Put that old book down.
There's more to life than watching it,
From the edge of town.

Get your coat on, Spencer,
The evening's just begun.
The music's playing, people are laughing,
Come and join the fun.

Get your coat on, Spencer,
Come and take your place.
Sometimes the best things happen,
When you simply show your face.

Get your coat on, Spencer...
Come along tonight...
The social hall is waiting...
Get your coat on, Spencer...
