Hymn to a Fallen Mariner

[Intro - low choir hum] [Chorus - choir, subdued] O fare thee well, dear brother Sound drive, and clear star lanes For the stellar wheel spins round and true So we'll meet you soon again [Verse 1 - gravelly baritone solo, sparse and mournful] Beyond the foggy walls of sleep, Beyond the solar winds, A mariner of the void dark, deep, A new voyage begins. [Chorus - full SATB choir, swelling] O fare thee well, dear brother Sound drive, and clear star lanes For the stellar wheel spins round and true So we'll meet you soon again [Verse 2 - gravelly baritone solo, mournful] Who from his youth would never know A life on solid ground, Whose only homeland, deck below, At last, a home has found. [Chorus - full SATB choir, swelling] O fare thee well, dear brother Sound drive, and clear star lanes For the stellar wheel spins round and true So we'll meet you soon again [Verse 3 - gravelly baritone solo, mournful] And what more fitting, than the suns Midst which he loved to sail Should guide him to the blessed ones, To that eternal vale! [Instrumental - pipe organ, reverent and mournful] [Chorus - full SATB choir, fortissimo] O fare thee well, dear brother Sound drive, and clear star lanes For the stellar wheel spins round and true So we'll meet you soon again [Outro - choir fading to hum, a cappella] [Spoken word - gravelly baritone, hushed] Ad astra et ultra regna, frater carus.
