This song is about the false hydra (pictured in cover image). A false hydra is a very unique type of monster. It was originally a homebrew DnD monster from 2014. It is a creature of pure hunger, and nothing else. The way a false hydra hunts is unnerving, it sings a song, and anybody that hears the song simply ignores its existence. Your brain registers the song, but you do not perceive it. Anyone affected by the song cannot perceive the false hydra. Furthermore, anyone under the effect of the song will forget about anyone the false hydra consumes. The more people a false hydra consumes, the larger it gets, and the more heads it grows. With each head it grows, it adds to the strength of its song, expanding how far it can be heard. False hydras seem like a huge threat to the entire world, right? No, they are not. Yes, they could consume every human in a city without intervention. Although, they are very much slow moving creatures, only really able to reach things as far as its necks can stretch. So once one eats an entire city's worth of people, and grows super-massive, it will starve before it has a chance to reach another location. Although that would rarely happen, because a false hydra is still intelligent, and would hunt in a way that allows the population of people to remain stable. The false hydra is one of my favorite monsters, because of its ability. There could be a false hydra staring right at you through your window, and you would never know it. In this song I tried to capture a story of a deaf child that lives in a city that unfortunately has a false hydra lurking underground. Because the child is deaf, their brain does not register the song of the false hydra. That means they are the only witness to this monster. ----------------------------------------------------------- Mama made breakfast just yesterday, Papa came home from the fields so late, Sister laughed as she braided my hair... I walk into town, the same time each day But now even the sun looks gray The people, they laugh, and they smile None can see the thing that keeps them beguiled But I do... I see them all... Because I can't hear their call... Its many faces rise from the ground They twist, and turn then let out their sound A silent hum I feel, but cannot hear Is sung, and to the people, it disappears It watches me walk, live, and run Yet no one asks where theyβve gone. The baker, the mayor, the girl with red shoes, Their names have faded, like morning dew. They smileβ¦ but someoneβs gone. They laughβ¦ but somethingβs wrong. No one asks, no one grieves, The empty chairs, the missing sleeves... Its many faces rise from the ground They twist, and turn then let out their sound A silent hum I feel, but cannot hear Is sung, and to the people, it disappears Mama made breakfast just yesterday... Papa came home from the fields so late... Sister laughed as she braided my hair... But no one believes they were ever there... No one remembers but meβ¦ No one remembers but meβ¦ No one remembers meβ¦ ----------------------------------------------------------- Β© 2025 The JesterMC
