--- Valentine's Day is coming up, so naturally I needed to make a Country EDM song that was about love :-) This one's about not only being there for your partner, but also letting them be themselves. There's something amazing about finding the right person that you're able to be yourself with. That accepts you for your flaws, and gives you the kind of support you need to accomplish things that you thought you were too afraid to do. The first generations of the song didn't quite have the right vibe. So I decided to switch up the acoustic guitar for a Mandolin and Fiddle and I really liked the change in tone that gave for the song. Made it a bit more "bright" and actually blended nicely with the EDM elements. The song ends and then has an extra part. Considered snipping that off and eventually I might, but I liked the sequence enough to keep it around. :-) ~David --- [Musical Introduction] [Warm acoustic Mandolin with soft atmospheric EDM pad slowly blooming underneath] [Verse 1] I’ve worn a lot of versions of me Polished edges, steady and sweet Played the strong one, played it cool Learned how to bend by the wrong kind of rules I’ve shrunk my voice to fit a room Laughed on cue, left too soon But you never asked me to rearrange Never loved me on a sliding scale of change [Pre-Chorus] You don’t pull, you don’t push You don’t rush what’s already good You just stand there steady as a shelf And somehow I’m braver than I’ve ever felt [Chorus] You let me be moody Let me be strong Let me be quiet when the day’s too long You let me be stubborn Let me be wrong Let me fall apart and take my time moving on You let me be distant Let me be close Let me be scared of what I want the most You don’t try to fix me or put me on a shelf You let me be anything… But most of all, you let me be myself [Verse 2] You don’t flinch when I doubt my spark Don’t compete with my restless heart You hold the door but not my wings You give me space to try wild things And when I fail, you don’t say “See?” You say “Get up, come back to me.” There’s no scoreboard, no keeping track Just open arms when I circle back [Pre-Chorus] You don’t cage, you don’t claim You don’t love me like a trophy name You just meet me where I stand With steady eyes and open hands [Chorus] You let me be messy Let me be bold Let me chase stories that haven’t been told You let me be reckless Let me be slow Let me figure out what I don’t yet know You let me be guarded Let me be free Let me unravel carefully You don’t need perfection or somebody else You let me be anything… But most of all, you let me be myself [Musical Interlude] [Folk Country mandolin riff builds into uplifting melodic EDM drop — warm, not aggressive — joyful momentum] [Bridge] I didn’t need saving I didn’t need chains Didn’t need someone to carry my name I just needed someone strong enough to stay Without standing in my way [Final Chorus – Lifted] You let me be fearless Let me be flawed Let me be human, no applause You let me be growing Let me evolve Let me stumble and still feel solved You let me be restless Let me be calm Let me be fire without alarm You didn’t just open doors to somewhere else You opened my heart… And let me be myself [Outro – Soft] No spotlight, no grand parade Just you beside me unafraid Of who I am… And who I’m gonna be [Musical Ending] [Acoustic mandolin resolves gently, soft EDM pulse fades warm and steady)]
