This Ain’t That Version
There was a version of this… that sounded like a legend… This ain’t that version. Verse 1 I’m a broken wagon wheel in a roadside prayer, Half sunk in the mud, nobody stops there, Pioneers pass by like I ain’t got a name, Just another bad omen in a westbound frame. Got dust in my throat from the stories I found, Fingered through ghosts that don’t make a sound, Every outlaw’s already been sung to death I’m just coughing up echoes and calling it breath. Pre-Chorus Tried on legends like a hand-me-down coat, Seams split open at the things I don’t know, Rain don’t fall like it used to fall Now it’s digital static on a dead-end call… Chorus So where’s my story if the map’s all filled? If the guns are rust and the rivers are billed? If the ghosts already got their perfect graves What’s left for the ones who couldn’t be saved? If I don’t dance right in this wired-up storm, Does that mean I was never meant to transform? Or am I the glitch in the outlaw code A wheel that won’t turn… still marks the road? Verse 2 Pocket full of myths that don’t fit my hands, Mouth full of dust from borrowed plans, Tried to sing like devils in old saloons Came out sounding like a dial-up wound. Read every line that the legends left, Every holy mistake, every romantic death, None of ‘em mention what it feels like now To get lost in the noise and still take a stand. Pre-Chorus 2 Thought I had to be sharp, had to be clean, But I’m stuck somewhere in between, Not a ghost, not a name they know Just something that refuses to go… Break Maybe the story ain’t buried in time… Maybe it’s stuck in the failure to rhyme… you were never off the map… Final Chorus Here’s my story ...unfinished, raw, No clean-cut legend, no outlaw law, Just a cracked old wheel that refused to spin, Still carving a path by digging in. If I don’t dance in the digital rain I’ll rust into something they can’t explain. Outro There was a version… …yeah…
