Lost on the Logging Road

[Verse 1 – lead] Cosmopolitan fellas on a hillside trail Took a wrong turn where the signs went frail Lost on the logging road with the daylight thin Laughing at the map As the shadows settled in [Verse 1 – background] (as the shadows settled in) [Chorus – all] Lost on the logging road! (logging road!) Miles from where we meant! (meant to go!) He said “I’m Dail Milton!” (Milton!) And our courage only bent! Lost on the logging road! (logging road!) No compass to our name! (to our name!) So we started singing Like mountain men of fame! (men of fame!) [Verse 2 – lead] Boots too clean for the dirt we found Branches cracking like a warning sound Talked of legends, laughed till it hurt Till we honored tougher men Than we’d ever claim in dirt [Verse 2 – background] (than we’d ever claim in dirt) [Chorus – all] Lost on the logging road! (logging road!) Miles from where we meant! (meant to go!) He said “I’m Dail Milton!” (Milton!) And our courage only bent! Lost on the logging road! (logging road!) No compass to our name! (to our name!) So we started singing Like mountain men of fame! (men of fame!) [Bridge – chant, printed four times] Sing their names! (sing their names!) Though we never knew! (never knew!) Sing their names! (sing their names!) As the dusk came through! (came through!) Sing their names! (sing their names!) Let the hillside hear! (hillside hear!) Sing their names! (sing their names!) Turned our fear to cheer! (fear to cheer!) [Final Chorus – all] Lost on the logging road! (logging road!) Miles from where we meant! (meant to go!) He said “I’m Dail Milton!” (Milton!) And the darkness softly bent! Lost on the logging road! (logging road!) We started weak and slow! (weak and slow!) But we made the mountain men By the songs we chose to know! (chose to know!)
