[Verse 1] She said, “I lost my job last Monday” He said, “Dad got sick last fall” Bills stacked like a leaning tower Heartbreak notes on the wall But we’ve been here a time or two On different days, in smaller shoes Spinning ’round on grandma’s floor Color circles, blindfold truth [Pre-Chorus] Left hand red Right foot green We fell hard But we laughed between [Chorus] Twister’s gonna twist, that’s what it does You reach for blue, you land in the dust You wobble and you wonder if you’ll stand again But you stretch a little farther than you ever planned Life spins the mat and points where it wants You might bend low, but you don’t give up Twister’s gonna twist, that’s what it does And we don’t quit, we just learn to trust [Verse 2] She remembers rainy summers Cousins yelling “Don’t you fall!” Vinyl squeaking under fingers Grandpa grinning in the hall Now it’s mortgages and medicine Different game, same kind of spin When the floor feels far away Hear that old voice cut the wind [Pre-Chorus] Left knee yellow Right hand blue Shaking bad But we pulled on through [Chorus] Twister’s gonna twist, that’s what it does You reach for blue, you land in the dust You wobble and you wonder if you’ll stand again But you stretch a little farther than you ever planned Life spins the mat and points where it wants You might bend low, but you don’t give up Twister’s gonna twist, that’s what it does And we don’t quit, we just learn to trust [Bridge] [Soft saxophone riff under close harmonies] So when the sky turns sideways And the news is all bad breaks We remember colored circles On that floor, those tiny stakes If we could laugh through tangled arms We can walk through fire and farms Hand in hand, toe on green We’re tougher than we think we’ve been [Chorus] Twister’s gonna twist, that’s what it does You reach for blue, you land in the dust You wobble and you wonder if you’ll stand again But you stretch a little farther than you ever planned Life spins the mat and points where it wants You might bend low, but you don’t give up Twister’s gonna twist, that’s what it does We won’t quit, ’cause we choose to trust [Outro] [Music drops to organ, soft guitar, gentle sax phrase] Male voice: The Encouragement Express Bringing you encouragement From the simple things in life
