Counter-Rotation
"Counter-Rotation (The Mind's Eye)" [Intro - Spoken Interlude - Sam (female)] (The track opens with the classic, buzzing 8-bit sound of an old Galaga arcade cabinet, slowly morphing into a heavy, grinding hurdy-gurdy drone. A massive 808 sub-bass throbs underneath. Spoken smooth, analytical, and directly into the neural link.) They call it an illness when they can't read the blueprint. They call it madness when they can't see the math in the air. But when you are hardwired to the machine, you know the truth. The world isn't ready for some things. But down in the dark, the mercury is spinning, the forces are building, and the assembly is absolute law. [Verse 1 - Matt (male)] (A heavy, sidechain-pumping industrial beat kicks in. A percussive banjo ticks rapidly alongside a glitchy synthesizer. Matt’s voice is rough, fast, and intensely focused.) I close my eyes and the numbers start to spin I don’t need a manual to know what’s deep within I see the moving parts, I watch the gears align I got a heavy-duty schematic burning in my mind It’s a catastrophic failure if you build the engine wrong You gotta listen to the metal, you gotta hear the song! The mercury-filled rotors turning opposite in space Counter-rotation pulling gravity right into place! They say I got a condition, they say my brain is wild But I’ve been seeing all the math since I was just a child! [Pre-Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (A blues organ swells, mixed with the rapid-fire laser sound of a retro arcade shooter.) (Matt - male) The doctors call it crazy... (Sam - female) ...the old man called it a gift. (Matt - male) I’m looking at the numbers... (Sam - female) ...and catching the heavy shift. [Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (Explosive, heavy-stomping drop. The slide guitar with talk box screams a mechanical, wailing riff over a punchy kick drum, backed by 8-bit synth chords.) (Matt - male) Embrace the beautiful madness, let the rotors spin! (Sam - female) ...feeling the vibration right beneath the skin! (Matt - male) The world only sees the static, the world only sees the noise! (Sam - female) ...but we are down in the trenches playing with the heavy toys! (Matt - male) I can take it all apart without a finger on the steel! (Both) God bless the crazy vision and the heavy way I feel! Yeah, heaven isn't ready for the secrets in the floor— So I’ll keep the engine running safely right behind the door! [Verse 2 - Matt (male)] (The beat drops to a dirty, hydraulic swamp-blues groove mixed with glitchy electronics. The mouth harp twangs rhythmically.) I trace it all back to the Walnut Bowl lanes Pumping quarters in the slots and leveling my brains Staring at the screen, letting Galaga fly While my dad was throwing strikes underneath the neon sky He was a heavy engineer, solid state and the trunking lines The only man who ever really understood the signs He told me keep it in my head, keep the heavy iron grounded 'Cause the ordinary public leaves the ordinary astounded So I sit upon the island and I watch the ocean roll While the mathematics constantly assemble in my soul! [Pre-Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (The hurdy-gurdy winds up, creating a chaotic, dizzying tension.) (Matt - male) The NADA blueprint... (Sam - female) ...is written in the blood. (Matt - male) I’m a high-speed circuit... (Sam - female) ...living in the mud. [Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (Maximum volume. Turntable scratches cut through the mix, blending hip-hop swagger with arcade metal.) (Matt - male) Embrace the beautiful madness, let the rotors spin! [Bridge - Matt (male)] (The instruments drop completely out except for a single acoustic guitar string bending, and the sound of a heavy, alien engine humming. Matt speaks in a deadpan, gravelly whisper right into the room mic.) The assembly of both engines coming together is absolute law. It creates a lot of different forces inside. They look at my paperwork and see a broken man. But they can't see the physics. [Outro - Sam (female) & Matt (male)] (The heavy 808 beat crashes back in for one final, grinding loop, layered with the Galaga capture-beam sound effect.) (Sam - female - fading out with deep plate reverb) Counter-rotation... absolute law... (Matt - male - spoken, a low, arrogant chuckle) Don't touch the dial. (The sound of a heavy vault door slamming shut, followed by the "Game Over" chime of a retro arcade machine, and absolute silence.)
