Journey On

I followed a spider through shadow and flames, She spun her web where the lost men roam. Her hunger grew as she whispered their names, Oh black widow, your greed will seal your doom. Journey on, through night and fire, Seek the truth beyond desire. Every creature, every man, Falls, then rises, if he can. I followed an eagle, his shadow wide, He screamed dominion over trembling land. He drank men’s blood to feed his pride. Oh proud one, your power will turn to sand. Journey on, through night and fire, Seek the truth beyond desire. Every creature, every man, Falls, then rises, if he can. I followed a river’s winding run, Past azure pools in forest’s breast. It sang of freedom under the sun. But it was dammed like all the rest. A lamb was bleating, lost and frail, Seeking her shepherd’s hand again. A gull would teach his brothers to sail, But died unheard on wind-swept plain. I followed a man up a mountain steep, His feet were bleeding, his heart was pained. I cried, “Come down, there’s rest and sleep!” He reached the top, and flew away. Journey on, O soul of flame, Through joy or loss, it’s all the same. Every life, from beast to man, Climbs to fall, and falls to stand. Journey on… journey on…
