August 2nd Is a Real Date

[Intro] I circled it and still forgot [Verse] “General application,” they wrote Two August, twenty-six Like the whole world will wake up And behave better on schedule High-risk lists, transparency lines Paperwork that lands on desks Before it lands on users My team makes a spreadsheet My team makes a prayer My team makes jokes that don’t land [Chorus] August second is a real date Not a concept, not a slide If we ship it into Europe We ship it with our eyes open August second is a real date And I want to be ready for once [Verse] They say some rules come earlier Some later, some with codes to write I’m learning the language of “obligation” Without losing the language of “care” Because a form can’t hold a person But a person can get hurt anyway [Bridge] I don’t want less building I want better building [Outro] I circle it again This time in ink
