The wind, as merciless as ever, swept across the frozen plains without granting them a single moment of peace. In the distance, the volcano grew larger with every step, its dark silhouette rising like the promise of something buried beneath the earth itself. Helena watched Johannes in silence for a while. She waited until Bruno and Min had walked a little farther ahead before finally turning toward him. One glance was enough to tell him she had been holding back questions for days. Johannes let out a long sigh, rubbed warmth into his hands with his breath, then smiled with quiet resignation. "I suppose you want us to talk, Helena... am I wrong?" A faint smile crossed her face. "You really can't hide anything from me." Her expression quickly became serious again. "The other day... when the ship overturned... you were suffering. It looked like you were fighting something inside yourself, as though part of you refused to surrender. What happened to you?" Johannes slowed his pace. His eyes drifted toward Min, who walked silently beside Bruno with her head lowered. When he finally looked back at Helena, something had changed in his expression. "You'll find out eventually. And knowing you... you'd keep asking until I answered." Helena nodded with a playful, satisfied grin. "That's true." A brief smile touched Johannes' lips before fading away. "The short version isn't nearly as beautiful as the real one. When I left Jötunheim... something inside me broke. Sköll... Fenrir's son... is no longer just a name I carry. He lives within my soul." He stopped speaking. The icy wind filled the silence for a moment. A single tear escaped down his cheek before he continued in a quieter voice. "Since that day, I've been fighting him. Sometimes I win... sometimes he's the one looking at the world through my eyes." Helena felt her chest tighten. "So... it isn't Fenrir sleeping inside you... but his son?" Johannes slowly nodded. "Yes." "But why you? Why would he choose you?" He lifted his eyes toward the pale sky, where the weak sun struggled behind heavy clouds. "Chaos, Helena... everything begins with chaos. Fenrir remains chained, but his will still reaches beyond his prison. He gave his sons a single purpose... to hunt Sól and Máni without end." Helena whispered almost instinctively, "The sun... and the moon..." "Exactly." His voice grew deeper. "And what do you think happens if one of them finally succeeds?" Silence answered before Helena could. Johannes continued calmly. "Fimbulvetr. An endless winter. A world without sunlight eventually forgets what life even is. That is what Sköll seeks... even when he whispers through me." Bruno had overheard the conversation and slowed his pace. "So... does that mean you're putting all of us in danger by staying with us?" Johannes turned toward him with unexpected warmth. "No. Not as long as I remain close to your mother." Bruno frowned. "What do you mean?" "Min carries something I cannot explain. Her presence quiets the curse. Whenever she's near me, Sköll falls silent... as though an unseen force forbids him from taking the final step." Helena immediately looked up. "Wait... then why did you lose control on the ship? Min was right beside you." Johannes remained thoughtful for several long seconds. "I can't be certain... but Jörmungandr was there. The World Serpent may have opened a breach. Loki's children each carry the same seed of chaos. When one draws near, the others are never truly far away." Bruno turned toward Min. "Mother... how can you restrain the power of a god?" Min gently raised her hand and brushed his cheek. Her mismatched eye shimmered beneath the pale northern light. "I don't know, my son. I've always believed it comes from this eye... but I know neither its origin nor its true nature. I cannot control it. I promise you." Bruno smiled with the simple trust only a son could give. "I believe you, Mother." Min returned the smile, visibly moved. No one spoke after that. For several more days, the company continued toward the volcano. With each sunrise its massive silhouette drew nearer, while the cold settled deeper into their bones. Ahead of them, the depths of the Land of Ice seemed to have waited for centuries, as though they had always known that every one of their destinies would eventually converge beneath the mountain. 💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍 I carried winter in my chest Long before the wolves found me Each silent breath became a chain No soul could hear me (Sár er sál mín) I fled the frost inside my blood Yet fate still knew my name Sköll fylgir mér! I heard his heartbeat under mine His hunger answered every prayer I begged the stars to leave my soul Yet only Min remained I carry Sköll beneath my skin I carry Sköll inside my breath I carry Sköll beyond my dreams Bound to Sköll! Every heartbeat steals tomorrow Yet one warm hand still calls me home I kneel before no curse alone Bound to Sköll! Min... your light still breaks my night Without your soul, I become the wolf I walked where broken gods still bled Ash covered every faithful road The beast still whispered through my veins I would not yield (Ek stend enn) Her quiet gaze became my shield My heart remembered dawn Who am I when the silence is gone? Who takes hold when the daylight is done? How many names have I buried below? How many faces still wear my own? Tell me the truth, or tear out my tongue. Tell me I'm free... then prove I was wrong. Blood on my breath, but none on my hands. Chains on my soul, yet still I still stand. Every step echoes louder than fear. Every heartbeat says, "He's already here." Run if you must, but where can I run? I've hunted myself since the world was young. Min... you're the fire! I carry Sköll beneath my skin I carry Sköll inside my breath I carry Sköll beyond my dreams Bound to Sköll! Every heartbeat steals tomorrow Yet one warm hand still calls me home I kneel before no curse alone Bound to Sköll! Min... your light still breaks my night Without your soul, I become the wolf
