Redemption's Road
The sun burns low on the frontier line, Dust on my boots and trouble on my mind, Ridin' through the desert where the coyotes cry, Chasin' ghosts of a life I left behind. The law came callin', said, "Pay your debt," Round up the wolves you used to ride with yet, Every mile's a memory I can't outrun, Every setting sun reminds me what I've done. I've seen the badlands, I've heard the thunder roll, A man's past is a shadow that follows where he goes. So ride, ride, down redemption's road, Through the blood and the dust and the heavy load, Tryin' to find peace where the wild winds blow, But the price of the past is a debt still owed. Ride, ride, though the night's grown cold, Some stories end but the truth gets told, A man can change, but heaven only knows, What's waitin' at the end of redemption's road. Across New Austin and the plains beyond, The world keeps changin' while the old days are gone, Iron tracks cut through the open land, Progress rides with a gun in its hand. I've fought bandits, soldiers, and my own regrets, Made promises I ain't forgotten yet, All I ever wanted was a family life, A quiet little home with my son and wife. But fate's a dealer and the cards are marked, Sometimes the light burns brightest before the dark. Hear the wind sing through the canyon walls, Hear the echoes when an outlaw falls, One last stand beneath a crimson sky, For the ones I love, I'd gladly die. So ride, ride, down redemption's road, Leave behind the sins and the heavy load, Though the world moves on and the rivers flow, A good man's heart is the strongest hope. Ride, ride, where the tall grass grows, Through the fading west that nobody knows, And when my time comes, let the story show, I found my peace on redemption's road. The sun sets slow on the open range, Nothing lasts, everything must change, But somewhere beyond where the wild winds blow, A rider still rides down redemption's road.
