My Dad's Hop Farm
[Intro] [Verse one] Back when I was young in the 1950s My dad owned a hop farm and it left me with great memories Those holidays spent on the farm The country air never did any harm [Verse two] Every Summer, folks came down from the city to help pick the hops They came via the branch line to the nearby stops Made new friends with the children Their names and faces I have never forgotten [Instrumental] [Bridge] Steam engines brought them here To pick hops to make the local beer For me and all, it was a wonderful holiday I with the local and visiting children went out to play [Chorus] My dad's hop farm Where life was calm Working hard in times after war Where we were safe forevermore [Instrumental] [Verse three] Yet this was not bound to last All of this was to be lost to the past The city folk visited less and the branch line closed The 1960s came and changes were soon imposed [Verse four] I grew up and the farm persevered through the decades Yet the memories are something that never fades Our farm remains working today by my family Its fields and hops built all of my memories [Bridge] The branch line may be gone with the hop pickers from the city It was a time I remember and miss ever so sorely The local beers are still crafted with our hops Even today, it's in all kinds of shops is where it's found [Chorus] My dad's hop farm Still a place where life is calm Yet no more city folk come to visit As I sit and remember it [Outro]
