When the group stumbles upon a lantern burning with an unnatural flame amidst the mud, Valeska rescues the soul trapped within. With her silent bell, she performs her somber ritual, "devouring" the rot of the flame and taking the stranger's torment upon her own breast. This spiritual burden, combined with the eternal tolling of the Blackroot Hollow bell, triggers a violent nightmare during the night: she witnesses the horror beneath the chapel—a petrified heart forged from ancient souls, pumping the rot through the valley in time with the bell’s toll. Upon reaching the village gates, she warns her companions, ready to defend her newfound "family" against the abyss at any cost. ---------------Lyrics--------------- [short Intro: Acoustic dark folk guitar, melodic thumping] [Verse 1: Female vocals, gritty and tired] The mists hang low, the morning light is pale, I sit in silent prayer, my ledger weaves its tale. The wax is broken, the letter heavy on the wood, My fifteen brave companions, standing where they should. To fifteen mortal souls I am bound until the end, To face the curse of Blackroot Hollow round the bend. None of us know within their bright, unburdened light, What forces will devour this place in deepest night. [Pre-Chorus: Building tension, orchestral rising, leading acoustic guitar] May Kelemvor watch over you and keep you in his sight, When the shadows of the world trample down your light. I bow my head before the cold and deity’s decree, The strict and silent duty of my god is calling me. [Chorus: Heavy Drop, Symphonic Metal explosion, powerful driving acoustic guitar] Blackroot Hollow, the name that no one speaks, The tolling of the bell is the only rule it keeps! Damnation haunts this valley where no tomorrow wakes, Spreading through the soil as the frozen empire shakes! My hand is on the silver, the burden on my chest – "I do not seek the darkness, but I burn when put to test!" [Verse 2: Rhythm lifting up to more familiar mystic melody, heavy and full, dark folk style] We follow where the new path through the dying forest leads, The mood is loud and high, blind to what the darkness breeds. Three days in frozen mud, but by the fires of the night, Inside my guarded soul awakes a forbidden, glowing light. The roaring tavern songs of Borin and Lutzrick break the ice, While tiny goblin Zikka plays her fiddle, wild and nice. Priester Tarr-ja’s gentle smile warms the freezing air, And Kannyay’s chaotic show dispels the heavy snare. [Campfire Chorus: Folk guitar, warm emotional building] I share a tea with Garok the Still beneath the moon, And whisper lines with Kaelen that the end is coming soon. I argue with Vaelric over his hunted vampire flood, And share with Ashthorn the wrath of our outcast blood. My watchful eye protects young Lyra’s puppet-like design, To keep the fragile illusionist safe along the line. They grow into my heart, every page within my book, These fifteen brave companions are the greatest curse I took. [Verse 3: Acoustic guitar grows dark and heavy, building dark folk tension] The pauses fade away. I watch them in the ring: How Garrik studies the phantom bell, exploring everything. Graig and Deyla return, tracking footsteps in the clay, While dryad Vaelen uses nature's force to lead our way. And little halfling Goldfish chases anything that gleams, Keeping my senses awake amidst these dying dreams. But on the third dark morning, a silent shadow falls, A strange and breathless quiet where no wild creature calls. We find a lonely lantern, swaying slowly in the mud, No signs of any struggle, and no traces of any blood. [Verse 4: Haunted female vocals, mystical and tense build-up] The traveler is gone, but the flame is burning low, A cold, unnatural violet light, a pale and ghostly glow. Fed by the owner’s trapped soul – I feel it in the air, A silent cry for mercy from a dark, systemic snare. I draw my silent bell, I strike the iron spike, A soft and silver echo that the shadows do not like. I breathe the cold corruption in, to set the spirit free, The flame expires in silence, but the burden stays with me. At night the vision finds me, a premonition of our death: A heart of petrified souls pulses deep beneath the floor, "Keep your eyes upon the fire!" I warn them at the door. [Transition] [Acoustic guitar stops abruptly] [CRUSHING SLOW DOOM METAL DISTORTION] [Heavy slow drum strike, deep sub-bass] [Verse 5: Deep incantatory metal vocals, heavy slow doom pace] The village gates appear, mere phantoms in the haze, There it lies before us, stripped of sunlit days. An everlasting gray swallows the hovels pale, While high above our heads, the iron bell starts to wail. It tolls all by itself, swung by a phantom hand, Too late we realized the danger in this land. I grip the blackened spike, my prayer is brought to light, Before the sudden darkness breaks our spirits in the night! [Sudden Silence] [Spoken, dark whisper] "Kelemvor, shield our souls from the decay and from the dark... For the petrified heart in the abyss heard us arrive." [Fade out]
