[Verse 1] Streetlight buzzes yellow On the wet back lane I hit the pavement quiet When the whole block goes insane Lids flip, bottles chatter Chicken bone and rind I pack a little banquet Then I leave the mess behind [Chorus] I'm Ricky after dark Mask on, eyes bright I check every trash bin On the quiet side of night I'm Ricky after dark Don't you lock that lid I climb your ivy ladder Just to see the life you hid [Verse 2] Second-story window Lamp still throwing gold You roll and kick the covers I've heard this tale of old I tilt this bandit forehead Take the scene in slow Steal a heel of sandwich And a secret you don't know [Chorus] I'm Ricky after dark Mask on, eyes bright I check every trash bin On the quiet side of night I'm Ricky after dark Don't you lock that lid I climb your ivy ladder Just to see the life you hid [Bridge] I ain't here to haunt you I ain't here to stay Just a midnight critic Passing through your day By dawn I'm in the maple Paws clean, belly full All you find is paw prints And a knocked-over can of wool [Final Chorus] I'm Ricky after dark Mask on, eyes bright I check every trash bin On the quiet side of night I'm Ricky after dark Leave a little out I'm the neighbor you don't notice Till I knock the whole can out
