MERCY 029 – Charter of Many Shores | The Mercy
(Verse 1) They lowered every banner till no colour claimed the height, Then filled the hall with grievances and witnesses of right. The river courts opposed the ports, the Houses challenged law, While every distant delegate remembered what they saw. (Verse 2) They argued over rescue when a fevered vessel came, And whether radio trust could bind a voice without a name. They weighed the rights of Scars against the hunger to explore, And asked how much a common rule could cross from shore to shore. (Chorus) No crown above the table, no command beyond the door, No single voice could answer for the settlements ashore. They shaped a guarded charter from the limits they could share, To bind the work of mercy without ruling everywhere. (Verse 3) The healers sought a warning chain for every spreading strain, The sailors asked that storm refuge should never serve for gain. The radio keepers offered marks for truth and trusted tone, While witnesses demanded every judgement could be known. (Verse 4) The Scar inquiries yielded where unwilling lives might pay, The delegates agreed no proof could sweep consent away. No army gained a mandate and no host received a throne, For every larger promise must remain locally known. (Chorus) No crown above the table, no command beyond the door, No single voice could answer for the settlements ashore. They shaped a guarded charter from the limits they could share, To bind the work of mercy without ruling everywhere. (Bridge) Agreement came in fragments, not a triumph born complete, With every clause made answerable to roads and hands and feet. They feared the distant order that forgets the names below, Yet signed the things that only joined communities could know. (Outro) The many shores departed with no empire in their wake, But rescue law and warning calls no power stood to take. They proved that human distance need not end in walls alone, And cooperation could grow wide without becoming throne.
