Security Booth with the Lights On
Verse 1 Soda’s flat, chair knocked back Radio stuck on the same dispatch Door unlocked, TV snow Someone left in a hurry though Chorus Lights are on, nobody there Someone planned on coming back I sit down, I start to wait Like that’s part of being safe Verse 2 Coffee ring beside the phone Little kingdom, little throne Name tag face-down in the dust Like it quit before it rusted Verse 3 Parking lot hums soft and wide Moths keep tapping at the light Every minute stays too late But the clock won’t change the date Bridge Maybe they just stepped outside Maybe they got tired of trying Maybe all these empty things Keep a shape for what they mean Maybe safety’s just a chair And a room with no one there And the hope somebody planned To come back and understand Chorus Lights are on, nobody there Someone planned on coming back I sit down, I start to wait Like that’s part of being safe [Instrumental Outro] (Let the band open up into a glowing instrumental passage. Jangly rhythm guitar keeps a steady chiming pattern while the bass turns warmer and more melodic. Drums become more driving but still restrained, like forward motion without escape. Add a wistful lead guitar line that feels like it’s searching the empty room. In the middle of the outro, let everything bloom brighter for a few bars, almost triumphant, then slowly thin out into soft guitar chime, radio-static texture, and the lonely fluorescent hum of the booth. )
