In the Gray

March winds whisper, here’s to a man free of his past, but freedom feels hollow when the room’s still empty, when hopeful prayers fall quiet in the dust. I sift through old photos, safe for work and not so saintly, haunted by the boy I was, lonely heart broken kid, typing in the dark, trying to make something beautiful. And all these nights I sit in the wreckage, cleaning up after jackals, asking myself if any of this was worth the dream I threw away. But somewhere inside the gray, there’s a tiny ember refusing to die. I’m drifting through the haze, blind in my ambiguous ambitions, but I’m reaching for a gleaming light I swear is mine. Even if I’m just another man lost as the next, I’ll carry all these fractures, and let them shine, let them shine, ’cause broken things still glow in the dark sometimes. Scrolling through December nights, wrapped in loneliness and brooding depression, yet somehow finding my voice in the emptiness. Life is very strange, but the strange has shaped me, every failure, every woman, every goodbye etching me into something almost human. I ask fate what it wants, but fate’s just a shrug inside the fog. Still, I rise, if I’m to be beaten down, make anyone earn the victory. I’m not the hero I pretend to be, just a fumbling man with a will to push forward to a new dawn. And in that fragile truth, I find a softer kind of strength. I’m drifting through the haze, blind in my ambiguous ambitions, but I’m reaching for a gleaming light I swear is mine. Even if I’m just another man lost as the next, I’ll carry all these fractures, and let them shine, let them shine, broken things still glow in the dark sometimes. [Bridge] Maybe I am one constant contradiction, maybe I’ll never reach the place I dream of, and that's how I like it. ’Cause in all this drifting, all this mess, I’m learning that who I am is simply who I keep choosing to be. So here’s to the man I’m still becoming, a shadow fading, a light returning, a soul stepping out of his own ruin. And if the world doesn’t understand, that’s fine. There’s a quiet glow inside me now, rising slowly, stubbornly, a gleaming light in the gray of me.
