[Verse 1] Every morning when I see him I wave him past The man's always looking through the same old trash Searching for cans in a smelly heap 'Cause Pete's next meal never comes cheap [Chorus] PoP Can Pete's knocking at my door Took his fifteen bottles to the liquor store Not enough to buy his gin So here comes Pete, he's knocking again, I said [Verse 2] Well, later that day, Pete walks on past He's getting real hungry and he's moving real fast Strolls up and rings your neighbor's chime Begging, says "Please, could you spare me a dime?" [Chorus] 'Cause pop-can Pete's knocking at their door He's taking 50 bottles to the liquor store Not enough to buy his gin So here comes Pete, he's knocking again, I said [Bridge] Wouldn't see Pete again that night Searching for bottles in the pale moonlight But soon you'll see him in the morning again [Chorus] Pop-can Pete's knocking at my door Took his fifteen bottles to the liquor store Not enough to buy his gin So here comes Pete, he's knocking again, I said [Outro] Every morning when I see him, I wave him past The man's always searching through the same old trash Searching for cans in the smelly heat 'Cause Pete's next meal never comes cheap
