Back, behind Walmart in the clutter and dirt, Four tiny kittens were afraid of getting hurt. Two orange, two gray trying to make it through Living day to day was all they really knew Hiding by the dumpster on the parking lot fringe, Seeing them there really made us cringe. They were so skittish when we first came near, Hissing in the shadows with a wild kind of fear. [Verse 2] They'd dart away fast every time we'd arrive, Not quite sure if people brought comfort or strife. But food in a bowl and a gentle embrace, Soon brought out the trust in each tiny face. We held them close till they knew they were safe, Now they're purring out loud in this happy place. No more scrounging for scraps in the dark and the cold, They've got all the love that a kitten can hold. Now they're chasing each other across the floor, Pouncing on shadows by the bedroom door. Curled up together when the daylight ends, Four little kittens and four best friends. No more running from the rain, no more having to hide, They're just rolling on the floor in the warmth inside. They wrestle in the kitchen without any care, Run through the living room and leap on the chair. It's a long, long way from that Walmart store, To where they're tangled in a heap on the bedroom floor. Those skittish little strays are just not the same, They're playful and affectionate with brand new names. In a quiet room what a beautiful sight, Sleeping in a bundle in the warm sunlight. From cautious eyes to happy purrs all day long, Now they run and they play with their fears all gone. Spot and Legolas are runnin' down the hall, Gimli and Laura Croft are climbing up the wall. Two gray, two orange, living better than before, Safe and warm together, not hiding in the weeds anymore. No more scrounging scraps behind the store, No more wondering what tomorrow's for. Watching them frolic side by side, Those rescued kittens always make us smile. Yeah, the Walmart days are completely done, Four purring kittens soaking up the sun.
