No Trailers, No Bars, No Phishing

I talk to my daughter Taylor, most every day At least I once did, in the old-school way Now it’s a text I get now and then But that’s only after one that I send She sent me a link to the latest trailer I said I can’t afford to sell mine Taylor No dad, it’s a Hollywood tease I thought rusty hitches with clothes in the breeze No trailers, no bars, no clue what she said I’m stuck in the past as she’s moving ahead She’s streamin’ her life, I’m just tryin’ to cope With emojis and updates and no envelopes She just moved to Boston, and I know lots of bars So I called to ask how she’s doing so far She texted back there charges don’t roam And sent a picture of service bars on her phone I asked about hotspots, and places unseen I meant a café where the waitress is mean She said something about coffee shops and scans And hotspots came only with premium plans No trailers, no bars, no clue what she said I’m stuck in the past as she’s moving ahead She’s streamin’ her life, I’m just tryin’ to cope With emojis and updates and no envelopes She said, “Watch for Spam,” I said, “I’m ahead— Got two cans in the pantry and some white sandwich bread” She said she meant junk mail and hackers, I thought she meant lunch and maybe some crackers Suddenly she started texting ‘bout phishing I said can’t be, but couldn’t help start wishing She said, “No, Dad, it’s malware, not casting in bays” I said, “Well, you don’t spell fishing with a P anyways No trailers, no bars, no clue what she said I’m stuck in the past as she’s moving ahead She’s streamin’ her life, I’m just tryin’ to cope With emojis and updates and no envelopes She’s tappin’ and swipin’, and talkin’ in slang She’s got Bluetooth earbuds, that’s gotta hurt, dang! She’s got apps for her feelings, I can just hum a tune And now she says she’s got cloud storage, my brain’s out of room…
