Her journey is to take her to the Lichtwacht’s fortress-monastery. No one can say in advance what might happen there or along the way... some time later, Jack and Terry arrive in Markenau with Cassian! Playlist - https://suno.com/playlist/86144b6f-94b5-48cc-9f6d-7b522e669235 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Intro - sparse medieval ambience, faint chain movement, distant footsteps, soft hammered dulcimer] [Verse 1 - female mezzo, fragile but steady, intimate storytelling, restrained phrasing] Footsteps on the stone floor, one more step toward the door. Every stride is harder still when your body’s lost the will. [Soft psaltery enters, very light pulse] They said they’re taking me away, somewhere else by break of day. Different walls, another room, different hands, the same old gloom. [Brief instrumental pause] I’m not free. But something shifts with every step I make. I’m moving now. And that is more than these walls could ever take. [Pre-Chorus - slightly warmer tone, music opens just a little, soft flute underneath] And then I’m suddenly not alone. For the first time I can see the face behind the voice that reached so far to me. [Chorus - melodic and memorable, hopeful but restrained, one female voice only] I don’t know where this road will bend, or what is waiting at the end. I only know I have to go, because staying leaves me where I know. Maybe there are walls ahead. Maybe more words left unsaid. But while my feet still know the ground, I won’t let this place hold me down. [Instrumental break - hammered dulcimer, psaltery, light frame drum, gentle forward motion] [Verse 2 - brighter but still delicate, voice gaining strength] The first pale stripe of morning light lands on skin that’s missed the bright. The sun is sharper than before, almost something to endure. [Airier wooden flute enters] My eyes burn hard. The tears arrive. But this time they don’t mean I’ve lost the fight. [Short pause after key emotional lines] Not much farther. Not much more. Soon I’ll watch Markenau fall behind the road. [Chorus - fuller arrangement, still intimate, no choir, no vocal layering] I don’t know where this road will bend, or what is waiting at the end. I only know I have to go, because staying leaves me where I know. Maybe there are walls ahead. Maybe more words left unsaid. But while my feet still know the ground, I won’t let this place hold me down. [Instrumental passage - flute and hammered dulcimer, light hand percussion, widening atmosphere] [Verse 3 - warmer, subtle dry humor, slightly more rhythmic delivery] The air burns cold inside my chest, clearer than I could have guessed. So clean it almost feels absurd after breathing dust and stone. They haven’t taken off the chains. But no one told me I can’t walk beside him. So here I am, half limping, half in pride, like some queen leaving ruin behind. Beside her king. At last. Dust on my clothes. Iron at my wrists. Probably rats behind us if they’ve made the list. [Half-spoken line - amused, tired, understated] Rat Queen. That sounds about right. [Bridge - arrangement strips back, soft drone, dulcimer and sparse flute] No crown. No throne. No banners in the air. Just morning on the road and someone walking there. No court. No gold. No title worth the strain. Just one absurd little kingdom dragging chains. [Short silence] And maybe that is enough. For today. [Final Chorus - brighter, gently uplifting, never triumphant, voice more open and assured] I don’t know where this road will bend, or what is waiting at the end. I only know I have to go, because staying changes nothing now. Every step toward the wagon hurts a little less somehow. And every time I look above, I hold the brightness longer now. [Music opens wider, soft frame drum and flute carry the movement] On the blue. On the sun. On the road still left to run. [Outro - almost weightless, sparse dulcimer and flute, faint chain ambience returning] And somewhere between stone and sky, a Rat Queen leaves the dark behind. [Final line - intimate, quiet, clear] [Soft flute phrase, dulcimer resonance, gentle fade]
