The three robbers

[Verse 1] We tiptoe out without a sound, when we go out for stealing. We take just what we’ve somehow found, and things we find appealing. Now darkness lies across the land, the town sleeps tight, a dreaming band. We sneak away with sack and pail in hand, yes, Casper and Jasper and Jonathan. [Verse 2] Into the baker’s shop we creep, but steal just crumbs and traces: some bread, some flour, a lollipop sweet, and piles of sugar cases. Sometimes though, Jon takes a stand, he craves a cake shaped like a man. But otherwise, we sip some water and just Casper and Jasper and Jonathan. [Verse 3] At the butcher’s, all we seize is just one tray of sparrows, a beef roast swinging in the breeze, some mince and ham in barrows. For the lion, we swipe a pig, a tiny one—just fair, you dig? But otherwise, we’ll settle for duck and fig, just Casper and Jasper and Jonathan. [Verse 4] And if it’s cold, the wisest way to face the frosty weather, is coats and vests of wool so gray, and scarves all knit together. We know a shop with clothes so fine, we trade by night—oh, what a line! But otherwise, we stroll just like we’re inclined, yes, Casper and Jasper and Jonathan. [Verse 5] And when our sack is stuffed and tight with food and other treasures, we snatch some silver, gold so bright, and flee to country pleasures. We empty out our bulging can, and cook the finest feast we plan. But otherwise, we do as little as we can, just Casper and Jasper and Jonathan.
