# Too Many Wheels! ### An Irish Jig **[Intro]** Deep under the mountain, Where no sunlight goes, There’s a workshop of iron And nobody knows. The chimney is crooked, The old bellows wheeze, The floor's full of cogs And the walls have no keys. A grumpy old being Sits down by the flame, With soot on his fingers And no use for names. He hammers and mutters, He grumbles and swears, And something keeps rolling Around on the stairs. **[Verse 1]** A wheel by the doorway, A wheel by the wall, A wheel on the workbench That shouldn't be there at all. A wheel in the furnace, A wheel in the grate, A wheel with no axle, A wheel with no weight. He kicks one aside, And another rolls through. He mutters, "I've seen this." Or maybe he knew. He reaches for iron, He reaches for tongs, Then stops when he notices Something is wrong. **[Chorus]** Roll it away! Roll it around! Nothing but wheels Are invading the ground! Turn it around! Kick it aside! Something keeps rolling From deep underground! **Too many wheels!** Too many wheels! That's what he cries As the whole workshop reels! **[Verse 2]** A raven sits watching From high on a beam. The smith gives it one look. The raven looks mean. Three rings of mushrooms Grow near the door. Three sleeping Giants Are under the floor. Three statues are staring At nothing at all. The smith points a finger. "Don't you start." They don't. He turns back to hammering, Hammering hard, While something enormous Leaves one little mark. He looks at the mark. He looks at the floor. Then mutters, "I swear I've seen that before." **[Chorus]** Roll it away! Roll it around! Nothing but wheels Are invading the ground! Turn it around! Kick it aside! Something keeps rolling From deep underground! **Too many wheels!** Too many wheels! That's what he cries As the whole workshop reels! **[Verse 3]** A face changes shape In the corner of sight. The smith doesn't notice. Or chooses not to. A reflection in water Turns two into one. He wipes off the puddle. The puddle says, "None." A voice from the tunnel Calls out from below. The smith shakes his hammer. "I told you, don't go." A leech wearing voices Slips past the door. He watches it vanish. Then sweeps the floor. **[Middle Break]** The wheels start turning. One. Two. Three. Seven. Ten. Twenty. The bellows begin breathing. The gears begin screaming. The floor starts shaking. The smith slowly looks up. He sees wheels in the ceiling. Wheels in the walls. Wheels in the chimney. Wheels in the forge. One rolls past his nose. He finally snaps: # **"TOO MANY WHEEEEELS!"** **[Instrumental Jig Break]** HEY! Kick the wheel! HEY! Move the gear! HEY! Who's been building all this nonsense here? Round and round! Down they go! One through the doorway! Three in a row! **[Verse 4]** The smith grabs a shovel, He grabs up a chair, He throws both at wheels That aren't even there. A shadow bends sideways. A Portal swings wide. The Mirror looks back From the other side. The smith shuts the Portal. The Portal comes back. He shuts it again. It opens with a **CLACK!** He stares at the doorway. The doorway stares back. Then one little wheel Comes rolling through the crack. He closes his eyes. He counts to four. Then whispers: "Not another." **[Final Chorus]** Roll it away! Roll it around! Nothing but wheels Are invading the ground! Turn it around! Kick it aside! Something keeps rolling From deep underground! **Too many wheels!** Too many wheels! That's what he cries As the whole workshop reels! **Too many wheels!** Too many wheels! The old smith is furious. The raven just stares. The Giants keep sleeping. The wheels climb the stairs. **[Outro]** Deep under the mountain, The hammer rings on. The workshop keeps turning From dusk until dawn. The smith keeps on grumbling. The fire burns bright. A wheel rolls behind him. He doesn't turn around. He sighs. Then: **"...Too many wheels."**
