[Verse 1] Your weight on the concrete made a perfect, shallow dip like a seam in the floor that the morning sun forgot I trace the line with my nail it’s just the grain of the floor but my palm remembers the curve of your shoulder under my arm [Chorus] You Were Never Here Just the space where you were supposed to be I keep counting the seconds that didn't happen [Verse 2] I press my ear to your side and catch the ghost of your exhale it’s the air moving through the vent the slow shift of the building I look at the steamless mirror where your outline should have been just the dust motes catching the low light and the way the room held its breath [Chorus] You Were Never Here Just the shape where you were supposed to be I keep counting the seconds that didn't happen [Bridge] We mapped out the fault lines with our elbows on the sill we signed the exit clause before we learned the names It was a temporary lease for a private kind of ruin and you signed it with your silence I signed it with my skin [Chorus] You Were Never Here Just the map of where you were supposed to be I keep counting the seconds that never were [Outro] The room just settles down like it always did and the indent on the sheet never smoothed out
