(English) On my morning walk to school, a painful cry, the trembling voice of chickens comes closer from behind and passes by. I stop and watch them go— loaded on the truck bed, shadows swaying in narrow cages, probably being taken to the factory. That moment felt so long, and the shadow fell into the gap of my heart. (English) They say the Earth is running in deficit, and to support all of humanity, we’d need about one point seven Earths on average. (English) Even so, it’s not about what happens to the planet— it’s just that when I remember the sound of those chickens, I wanted to choose differently. (English) Every time I pick up a pack of eggs, I can’t help imagining what kind of place the mother hens lived in. I just hope they breathed under gentle light, even a little. (English) Just a small preference, just a small choice. Holding vegetables still dusted with field soil, I quietly hope again today that they stay delicious for even one more day. (English) It’s not about what happens to the Earth— I just think of the health of my family and friends. So I cook again today, and I want to choose with care. (English) The shadow of that day won’t fade, but even now, it gently pushes me forward. For myself, for someone else— round and round, it feels like maybe I’ve reduced the Earth’s burden just a little. (English) And again today, I choose quietly, under the same sky as that shadow from long ago.
