by: Thormar Daern, Minstrel of Amn date: 1421 DR source: Bury Elminster Deep The drums so distant and low, The cries grew loud and near, And banners started to show, Our foes drew spike and spear. Whispers of doom did spread; Then, lords and kin, Ah, then, I feared we’d soon be dead. I stood where shadows creep, And the sky burned hellish red, My dreams did fracture deep, And hope had all but fled. The weight of terror led; Then, hearts and hands, Ah, then, I counted the tears I shed. Amn you city of Gold. Amn a sight to behold. Amn with heroes so Bold. Do you really need a bard so old? And when the gates were burst, And the foe rode in, And did their murderous worst, To all my bleeding kin, Leaving the fortunate ones dead; Then, ladies and saers, Ah, then, fearing worse, I fled.
