If You Can Hold the Mountains

I stood beneath a mountain Watched the clouds roll across the sky Thought about the world You made And all the reasons I ask why There’s a river down in the valley There’s an old oak standing tall There’s a thousand stars above me And You somehow know them all You laid the rocks upon the hillside Carved the valleys through the land Put the oceans where You wanted And You hold them in Your hand If You can hold the mountains If You can calm the sea If You can keep the whole world turning You can take care of me I don’t need to know tomorrow I don’t need to understand The God who made the heavens Has my life within His hands I’ve spent too many nights just wondering How things are gonna turn out right Trying to see beyond the darkness Trying to make it through the night But the sun still rises every morning And the rain still feeds the trees Every creature finds its living From the gifts You freely give If You can hold the mountains If You can calm the sea If You can keep the whole world turning You can take care of me I don’t need to know tomorrow I don’t need to understand The God who made the heavens Has my life within His hands And when I’m down inside the valley And the mountain’s all I see Remind me You’re the One who made it And You’re walking there with me Every rock and every river Every forest, every star They all tell me just how mighty And how merciful You are If You can hold the mountains If You can calm the sea If You can keep the whole world turning You can take care of me So I’ll leave tomorrow with You Let the worries of today fall ’Cause the God who made the universe Is the God who holds it all Yeah, You hold it all Lord, You hold it all And if You hold the whole creation I know You’ll carry me through it all
