Ah, A beautiful morning today in the Shire! A cup of tea, and a fine pipe. Mmmm Best pipe weed in the land. Blowing a grand smoke ring, just minding my own, Cup of tea outside the round door of Bag End, my home. Then along came an old man, a tall staff in his hand, Tall pointed blue hat, the strangest in the land. I puffed on my pipe and I nodded my head, "Good morning, Sir." I smiled, and that's all that I said. He stopped and he stared from under his brim, Looking right through me, quite thoughtful but grim. "What do you mean by that?" he asked with a hum, "Do you wish me a good one, or is it just one that is good? A morning you feel good on, or one to be quite good upon?" He tangled my words till my thoughts were quite spun. All of them at once, I suppose! I replied. Just wanting this strange, tall fellow outside To move right along and to just let me be With my pipe and my porch and my quiet cup of tea. But he's now on my stoop, with his own pipe alight Then he spoke again, so sudden it caused me a fright "I am Gandalf," he stated, "and Gandalf... means me." Good gracious! I cried, Not the wandering wizard, I see? The one who made fireworks, shaped of dragons of flame? Who takes all the quiet sensible lads out of their lanes Take them off on wild quests over water and beyond the trees? He smiled and he boughed. "One in the same, at your service... if you please." "I'm looking for someone," he said with a gleam, "To share an adventure I'm arranging, a little scheme!" And I bet that could be worse than I ever glean! No thank you! I scoffed, with a crossing of my arms, We are plain quiet folk, and don't venture past our farms! Adventures are nasty, disturbing, things quite foul! They make one late for dinner! I said with a scowl. I grabbed at my letters, turned my back to the breeze. "We don't want any adventures here, you can leave if you please!" I pulled open my door, gave a stiff little bough, Wanting nothing to do with him, I'm taking my leave right now. Good day, sir! I said with a spin, Good day Indeed! I'm sure you can find someone else to help with your need He just smiled wide as I shut the door tight, Leaving him on my step in the bright morning light. Oh, I declare! Is he chuckling there on my porch in place, with the door firm in his face... Wizards... Strange Lot...
