V5.5

UNSATISFIED [Intro – surveillance hum / bowed bass drone / dry whisper] I have proof that I should be happy. [teeth click] It doesn't work. I have proof that I'm worth something. [detuned piano hit] I don't believe it. [Verse 1 – deep raspy baritone / clipped spoken-rap] I look at myself like a prosecutor, no defense, no right to make mistakes. Every strength gets put through a filter, every flaw goes straight into the file. They say: talented. I say: luck. They say: strong. I say: I had to be. They say: beautiful. I search for the angle that will prove they weren't looking closely enough. I don't know how to take a kind word. I tear it apart until it means nothing. Like they've mistaken me for somebody else. Like praise is just an error waiting to be corrected. [Pre-Hook – mechanical kick enters] And I want more from people. More attention. More certainty. More answers. I set the bar against the ceiling and ask why no one can reach it for me. [beat cut] Neither can I. [HOOK – barked / slammed metal-door impacts] I HAVE! And I still feel what's missing. I HAVE! And I ask, "Why only this much?" I HAVE! Love, a job, results, a roof. So why does everything that was supposed to fill me leave behind HUNGER?! [metal-door slam] HUNGER! [808 slide] I don't want more things. I just want to finally feel that something is ENOUGH. [Verse 2 – palm-muted guitar stabs / dry vocal forward] Someone sleeps beside me who seems to believe that everything between us is fine. Maybe for him, it really is. Maybe silence sounds like peace to him. It sounds different to me. I don't scream. I don't fight. I don't slam the doors. And that's exactly the problem. Because if it's wrong, why don't I change anything? If I care, why don't I try to save it? If I don't, why am I still here? [reverse courtroom murmurs] I don't have an answer. What I do have are more days lined up neatly, one after another. He can be happy. I can look happy. Those are not the same thing. [Verse 3 – detuned piano / mechanical kick-snare] At work, they call my name. Congratulations. An award. A handshake. I should feel something. [beat cut] Nothing. So I smile when I'm supposed to, say "thank you" when I'm supposed to, come back home already figuring out what I should do next. One more rung. One more result. One more piece of evidence. Like I'm building a case against my own belief that I'm not enough. But how much evidence does it take when the judge has no intention of reading it? [Bridge – bowed bass drone / surveillance hum] Maybe I'm not ungrateful. Maybe I'm tired of a life that, on paper, should be enough for me. Maybe "more" was never the answer. Maybe I wanted more money, more recognition, more love, more from people, because I didn't know how to say: [full silence] "I don't know what I want from myself." [Breakdown – spoken, almost no beat] I have a lot. That's true. There are people who see good in me. That's true too. Someone can love me and I can still be unhappy. I can be successful and still hate my job. I can have more than I ever imagined I'd have and still not know why I don't feel at home in my own life. [tape saturation rises] Those truths don't have to cancel each other out. [FINAL HOOK – explosive / full industrial trap-metal] I HAVE! But I don't know how to have without fear. I WANT! But I don't even know what. I RUN! Even though I don't know where the finish line is. And every victory I immediately turn into the starting line of another race! I HAVE! And I still count what's missing. I WANT! And I keep raising the bar. MORE! Louder! Higher! Further! [sudden beat cut] But maybe for the first time, I don't need more. Maybe I need to understand why everything I have still can't reach me. [Outro – low baritone / gated room reverb] I'm not asking the mirror to love me. I'm not asking the world to give me more. I just want to look at my life someday without searching for what's wrong with it. [surveillance hum fading] And look at myself... without an indictment.
