They told me there was one thing Love would never let me undo One thought too far One word too dark One line I might stumble through So I watched every thought Like Heaven was keeping score Afraid I might offend the Spirit And Love me no more But something didn't fit Something underneath me knew If Love is really infinite What could I do to injure You? There was fear on the hook And I swallowed it whole Spent half my life Trying to rescue my soul But Love wasn't angry Love wasn't keeping score Maybe God never locked the door Maybe the hook was fear And fear was never You God is Spirit That's what the words actually say No flesh to wound No pride to bruise No ego to push away So who was I afraid of? What image had I made? A God-sized human temper With eternity to pay There was fear on the hook And I swallowed it whole Spent half my life Trying to rescue my soul But Love wasn't angry Love wasn't keeping score Maybe God never locked the door Maybe the hook was fear And fear was never You Blaspheme Grieve Offend Fall away So many words When you're already afraid But perfect Love Casts out fear So why was fear What kept me here? What could the finite do To permanently wound the Infinite? What could this little clay vessel do That Love itself Could not forgive? There was fear on the hook But I finally let it fall I don't need terror To hear the Spirit call Love wasn't angry Love wasn't keeping score And I don't stand trembling Outside the door There was fear on the hook But fear... Was never God. God is Love. Perfect Love casts out fear. So I did.
