I’m the guy who’s got it all, the one you’d trust with your life, The perfect reputation, sharp as a surgeon’s knife. But inside my head, there’s a static I can’t ignore, A darkness I’ve been keeping behind a locked door. I thought I could solve it, keep the two things apart, Using science to filter the poison out of my heart. I mixed up a chemical "cleanse" to set myself free, So I could be the monster and still keep the "good" me. The first time I took it, it felt like a rush, like a high, Watching the "proper" version of myself start to die. I woke up smaller, meaner, and feeling so light, A predator ready to own the middle of the night. I called him Hyde, a man with no filters or shame, Who didn’t care about my career or the weight of my name. I’d go out and wreck things, just to feel the thrill, Then drink the antidote and go back to being chill. But here’s the problem with opening that kind of door, The monster starts wanting a whole lot more. I’d wake up as Hyde without even taking the hit, Realizing I was losing my grip on every bit of it. The "good" Dr. Jekyll was becoming the ghost, While the thing I created was the one doing the most. I’m looking in the mirror and I don’t know who’s there, Just a hollowed-out man with a terrifying stare. I tried to stop, I tried to stay locked in the lab, But the craving for Hyde is like a physical stab. I’m running out of the ingredients to make the fix, And my old life is falling apart like a pile of bricks. People are knocking, they’re asking what’s wrong, But I can’t let them see where I’ve been all along. The mask is slipping, and the powder is gone, I won't make it through to the break of the dawn. It’s a cautionary tale about the secrets we hide, And how hard it is to keep the beast tucked inside. If you feed your demons just to see what they do, Eventually, the demon is the only thing that’s you. The door is breaking down, and the light is getting dim, Goodbye to the Doctor... I’m becoming just him.
