Verse 1 I was the last truck in the parking lot Sunday morning come and gone Coffee cup cooling on the dash Radio playing some old country song I wasn't headed anywhere special Just staring at the gravel and sky When a flash of blue came drifting by On a pair of dragonfly wings Chorus Funny how God speaks softly Never when you're looking too hard Sometimes it's a sunset fading Sometimes it's a scar on your heart Sometimes it's a little dragonfly Shining in the August light Reminding a wandering soul like me That there's more above than below tonight Verse 2 Some folks don't know a dragonfly Spends years beneath the waterline Living in a world of mud and weeds Never knowing it was born to fly Then one day something calls it upward Something says it's time to leave It breaks free from the shell it wore And becomes what it was meant to be Chorus Funny how God speaks softly Never when you're looking too hard Sometimes it's a sunset fading Sometimes it's a scar on your heart Sometimes it's a little dragonfly Shining in the August light Reminding a wandering soul like me That there's more above than below tonight Bridge Maybe baptism feels like that Stepping into waters deep Leaving behind the man you were Trusting what you cannot see The old shell stays beside the river The new life rises with the Son And every wingbeat whispers softly Child, your journey's just begun Final Chorus Funny how God speaks softly Through the things He chose to make Through dragonflies and campfire smoke And every road a man must take And if you're chasing after Jesus But afraid when He draws near Remember every dragonfly Had to leave the water here So spread your wings and trust the wind The One who called you by your name The God who made the dragonfly Is calling you to do the same.
