[Title: Treasures You Keep] [Verse 1] I got six little hearts that call me Grandpa's name And seven more just down the line, but the love's the same Five great-nephews runnin' wild, two nieces sweet as June Thirteen reasons Heaven knows I hum a different tune [Chorus] They're treasures you keep, not treasures in a bank You don't spend them, no you spend on them, son, to give them thanks More precious than diamonds, more than silver or gold You nurture and you guard them as they grow old It's a duty, it's a promise, you don't take lightly And God is the Banker of us all, He holds 'em tightly He'll never forsake you, like men sometimes do These treasures you keep, they keep you too [Verse 2] You don't put 'em in a vault and leave 'em locked away You pour into 'em morning, noon, and end of day A lesson taught in kindness is interest on the soul Every prayer you whisper makes their worth grow [Chorus] They're treasures you keep, not treasures in a bank You don't spend them, no you spend on them, son, to give them thanks More precious than minerals dug from deep in the ground It's the love that you protect when trouble comes around It's a duty, it's a calling, not to be taken for granted It's a garden of the heart where Heaven's love is planted And God is the Banker of us all, He sees you through When men have let you down, He'll see you through [Bridge - soft, spoken with steel guitar] I ain't got much in that bank account downtown But Lord look at the riches that follow me around Every little footprint on my kitchen floor Is wealth this old world just can't afford [Final Chorus - bigger, with harmony] They're treasures you keep, not treasures in a bank You don't spend them, you spend on them, and you thank the Lord to be thanked You nurture them, you protect them, you guard them with your life Through the storms and the shadows, through the worry and strife 'Cause God is the Banker of us all, He'll never let go He won't forsake you like this world has done, this I know So hold 'em close tonight, let His love be true These treasures you keep... will keep you too [Outro] Yeah, these treasures you keep... will keep you too Amen.
