They taught me... to fear... what I called... Love. They taught me...to tremble... before the One...who gives... every heartbeat. I bowed .. I whispered. I obeyed. Not always... because I understood. Sometimes...because I was afraid... not to. Then one day...a question... arrived. Quietly. Almost unnoticed. If Love... casts out fear... Why...am I still afraid... of Love? If a child... runs... into a father's arms... Is that fear? Or trust? If the light...enters a dark room... Does the room...fear... the sunrise? Somewhere... I confused awe... with terror. Wonder... with anxiety. Reverence... with fear. Perhaps... reverence... is not shrinking... before greatness. Perhaps... it is opening... to it. The stars... do not fear... the sky. The waves... do not fear... the sea. The branch... does not fear... the tree. Then why... would Life... fear... its own Source? Maybe... what I called... fear of God... was really... fear... of losing... the image... I had built. Love... doesn't demand... terror... Light... doesn't threaten... darkness. Presence... doesn't need... to frighten... the breath... it freely gives. So today... I lay down... my fear. Not... my reverence. Because reverence... without fear... becomes... wonder. Perhaps... the deepest worship... is not trembling... before Love. It is... finally... trusting... Love.
