'Twas the night before Halloween

V4.5+

Night… before… ’Twas the night before Halloween, shadows took flight, Not a creature was stirring, except things of fright. Cobwebs were strung on the rafters with care, In hopes that the spirits soon would be there. The children lay restless, eyes open with dread, While visions of jack-o’-lanterns burned in their heads. And witches in moonlight with cauldrons that steamed, Stirred potions of nightmares that slipped into dreams. When out in the graveyard there rose such a sound, Bones started rattling deep underground. Up from the soil, the ghouls made their climb, A chorus of whispers crept into rhyme Beware, beware, the spirits are near, They dance in the shadows, they feed on your fear. The pumpkins are grinning, the sky’s turning black, On Halloween night there’s no turning back. The moon on the gravestones, it shimmered so pale, A ghost in white tatters let out a long wail. When what to my shivering eyes should appear, But a phantom carriage, pulled by dead deer. With a driver so ghastly, a lich crowned in flame, I knew in a heartbeat, we’d all know his name. More rapid than vultures, his minions they came, And he whistled, and shrieked, and called them by name: Now Banshee! Now Phantom! Now Specter and Wight! On Goblin! On Demon! On Creature of Night! To the top of the tower! To the crypt, to the wall! Now dash away, dash away, Terror for all! Beware, beware, the spirits are near, They dance in the shadows, they feed on your fear. The pumpkins are grinning, the sky’s turning black, On Halloween night there’s no turning back. And I heard him exclaim as he rode through the scene, Dark Halloween to all, I will see you all in your dreams
