Their lamps burn with a cool blue light, and villagers who have learned the sound of their approach begin to gather in the square before the wagon has even come to rest. ✩ They are always together. In song and in life. No one has seen one without the other. When they perform, their voices twine so naturally that it is difficult to remember afterward who sang which line. ✩ Their shows are warm affairs. They sing songs of home and good cheer, and tell jokes threaded with hidden innuendo; the kind that make the elders chuckle behind their hands while the children laugh at something else entirely. But there is no hidden agenda in the performance. No con, no sleight of hand, no coin missing from a pocket the next morning. They are shiny and pretty, and they seek only to entertain. When the show is done, they bow, they smile, they retire to the wagon, and the beads go still. What we do not know.: ✩ Their names appear to be stage names, though neither has ever confirmed it. Who names their daughter after an insect? When asked, she will only tilt her head and say, "I am Junebug, and Junebug is me." Aelthor, when pressed, says nothing at all, and smiles in a way that ends the conversation gently. ✩ No one has seen them without their makeup and finery. After hours, they are very private people. The curtains of the wagon draw shut, the blue lamps dim to a whisper, and whatever happens inside stays inside. No one has ever asked to enter. Something about the wagon suggests one should not. ✩ Where they come from is unknown. Where they are going is unknown. Whether they have always traveled together, or found each other along the way, is unknown. ✩ What is known is this: while they are here, they plan to entertain! ✩ And then, without ceremony, they will be gone; the creak of the wheels growing softer, the jingling of the beads fading down the road, the blue light disappearing between the trees. ✩ Until the next town hears them coming. ✩ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☽ ✩ ☾ ⋆⁺₊⋆ [Intro – spoken] Welcome, all our perfect ravens...
