Sue's Mirror

Inspired by the situation of a brother and his sister. Mark was worn out by the constant emotional turmoil Sue (his older sister, 20) seemed to continuously suffer. He'd see her descend into depression and days of tears and yet she'd go right back into the "Coliseum" (Mark's name for it, thinking she was like the slaves sent into the arena to be mauled by wild beasts); endlessly scrolling, flipping through her social media feeds and dating apps. She lived on the bile the umbilicals delivered daily. Posting selfies, trying to garner those treasured 'likes' - devastated when it all flopped or someone left deriding comments or made embarrassing memes of her pictures. Finally, one afternoon, he took her out for a turn around the lake in a rowboat. There out on the lake, when she seemed calm, he bore his heart to her; telling her she was worth far too much to squander herself in this self-destructive game. He encouraged her to see herself as he saw her: a beautiful, bright young woman full of potential. Reluctant, nevertheless, she took the challenge and pulled the plugs from the vats of poison. It took some time, and a lot of encouragement from Mark and, surprisingly their father... but she persevered. Finally she saw clear blue sky. And, as Mark says: "Every small choice and all the results, are simply what we have now..... Joyful, true, stable progress - Her Own Life... Keeps her future intact..." [Intro] Ooo-oooo-oo... (Ooo-oo-oooo-oo........) Are all the real friends now? She's not compelled to answer the bell... All the confusion and all the effects, Are nothing but lessons now known.....
