Bitter Emptiness

[Intro:] **[Pure Instrumental - sparse acoustic guitar picking, establishing Harmonic Minor. Freezing, intimate, no vocal:]** [Verse 1:] **[Low, melancholic vocal over minimal acoustic guitar. Heavy negative space between lines - let each line decay into silence before next:]** The heather bleeds across the broken stone, Where northern winds go howling for the dead. I walk these shivering moors alone, To trace the ghost of every word you said. The peat is black, the frozen water gleams, A heavy grief is swallowing the day. I built an altar out of phantom dreams, And watched the weather wash it all away. [Chorus 1:] **[Strings enter - cello & violin bloom beneath. Drums arrive slow & distant. Room widens, cavernous:]** A vast and bitter emptiness remains, Where once a grand, idealized kingdom stood. The fog descends in suffocating chains, To choke the skeletal, unhappy wood. **[Full stop - instrumental drops out entirely for Bar. Silence as instrument:]** [Interlude:] **[Pure instrumental. Doom-tuned electric guitar slides into crushing wall, then cuts out. E-bow drone & manipulated cello through long delay trails. Desolate, cinematic - landscape breathing on its own. No percussion until final bar, where single funeral-march strike lands:]** [Verse 2:] **[Return to narrative storytelling. Same intimacy as Verse 1, but thin layer of cello drone now sits beneath acoustic guitar - lingering sense of approaching dread:]** We thought our bond was carved in ancient rock, But time has shown the malice of the trick. The ravens gather on the granite block; The fog of our illusion settles thick. I loved a shadow, brilliant and unfair, A brilliant light that never truly shone. I grip the heavy, winter-bitten air, And finally admit that you are gone. [Chorus 2:] **[Same melody as Chorus 1, but denser - choral vocal stacking, chamber harmonies, tighter dynamic pressure. Drums heavier, closer to full crush without breaking yet:]** A vast and bitter emptiness remains, Where once a grand, idealized kingdom stood. The fog descends in suffocating chains, To choke the skeletal, unhappy wood. This finality is cold and absolute, A sudden collapse we cannot quite undo. The barren soil is poisoned at the root; No flowers bloom for me and you. **[Hard cut to silence - full stop before outro:]** [Crescendo Outro:] **[No new lyrical content - this section functions as sonic release, not narrative. Single isolated vocal fragment, drenched in cavernous reverb, repeats & dissolves into wall of sound:]** **[Isolated vocal fragment - repeat, decaying into mix:]** “…and cooled the fever in my blood..." **[Massive down-tuned guitars enter beneath. Crushing cymbals, thudding funeral-march drums at full weight. Wall builds & holds - ice-cold devastation - then falls away to nothing. Final bar - single sparse acoustic guitar note, alone, same as Intro. Silence:]**
