FRANK 029 – The Wedding Night and the Frozen Chase | Frankenstein
(Verse 1) The wedding candles trembled while Victor watched the night, Convinced the Creature waited to strike him out of sight. Then from the distant chamber came Elizabeth’s last cry, And Victor found his dearest beneath the moonlit sky. (Verse 2) The warning stood revealed then, too late to understand, For vengeance had not sought him but struck his promised hand. When Alphonse heard the sorrow, his failing spirit broke, And grief became the final weight his weary heart could choke. (Chorus) He followed through the kingdoms where frozen rivers ran, No longer as a scholar but as a hunted man. Across the snows of Russia, through darkness, wind and flame, He chased the life he fashioned and cursed the Creature’s name. (Verse 3) The Creature left him traces to draw him ever near, And taunted every footstep with messages of fear. Through villages and wilderness the endless pursuit spread, While hatred kept him moving where hope and mercy fled. (Verse 4) At last the world grew frozen beneath the Arctic sky, Where cracking fields of ocean stretched white before his eye. His strength began to fail him, his body worn and thin, Yet still he drove northward to reach the foe within. (Chorus) He followed through the kingdoms where frozen rivers ran, No longer as a scholar but as a hunted man. Across the snows of Russia, through darkness, wind and flame, He chased the life he fashioned and cursed the Creature’s name. (Bridge) Then Walton’s distant vessel appeared among the snow, And took the dying wanderer from where no road could go. The chase had crossed a continent and reached the frozen sea, Yet Victor still demanded the end he could not see. (Outro) The wedding night lay buried beneath the Arctic white, While every loss behind him still travelled through the night. He reached the ship exhausted, but vengeance held him fast, And knew the final reckoning was drawing near at last.
