Nowhere Roadside Cafe (spoken rap style)

[Nowhere ROADSIDE CAFE] She had such a familiar smile Despite myself I stared for quite a while Then by and by she caught my eye Her face went pale and I wondered why? She got out of her car, walked over to mine And as she bent down to say hello Her name wandered back into my mind. After a decade, kinda crazy meeting this way, Both stopped for a bite at a nowhere, roadside cafe. She took my hand as we went inside the place Found a booth in the corner, sat face to face. We sat, we smiled, we just looked at each other What do you say to your old highschool lover? [pause for two beats] [slow rap, slow] I said, "There's something I always wanted to know. What happened that April you had to suddenly go?" Her face slowly frowned, in its old familiar way, a cute yet serious stare before, "I'd rather not say." I reached out, gently took her hand in mine "Babe, it's really hurt me for a very long time." [pause for two beats] [slow rap, slow] She said, "We used to be so perfect, I fell in love with you. Seemed like together, there was nothing we couldn't do. Remember you wanted to go to Med School Be a doctor with a gold MD on your car." I interrupted, "And you, the one with so much talent, Sure to be a singing star!" She smiled for a second, then her eyes clouded over She squeezed my hand, I saw her decide, now or never. [pause for two beats] [slow rap, slow] "I got pregnant. I just didn't know what to do. Never wanted to become a burden to you." [slow rap, slow beat 80 bpm] I fought the shock, didn't know what to say, How to tell her, so wrong to have thought that way. And yet, back then, would I have stayed by her side? Suddenly I’m filled with unaccustomed feelings inside. [pause for two beats] [slow beat down, sad] "A girl," she answered before I regained my voice to ask "Where is she? I'd love to see her." I admitted at last. And suddenly appeared in her eyes, the tears… Tears she'd kept inside all those long lonely years "Oh I wish you could," she cried "but she's no longer alive. Our little angel died in a car crash before she was even five." [pause for two beats] [slow rap, slow] [slow rap, don't increase tempo] I sat there so stunned by her tragic news How a life was over before it'd even begun Things so important just a second before Felt so useless, scattered on the dusty floor Abruptly, she kissed my mouth lightly and said, "I've got to go. My job is demanding and it's almost time." I could feel her pain, raw like a fresh cut not healed I wanted to console her but weakly replied, "Yea, so is mine." [slow soft music interlude for 12 seconds] [pause for two beats] [slow rap, slow] I stood there lost, watching her drive away, leaving me alone Realized I hadn't asked for her address or her phone. But it seemed so crazy to have just met that way Both stopped for a bite at a nowhere, roadside cafe. [slow sad music fade out] [END.]
