[Intro] A flight from Dublin, heading north Beyond the clouds, across the sky A little island near the Arctic Circle The land of fire and ice Seven nights, eight days on the road Driving counterclockwise around the island Volcanoes, glaciers, hot springs and wild land A world we’d never known was waiting [Day 1 – Eyrarbakki] We rented a car and the journey began My first time driving on the left-hand side Holding tight to an unfamiliar wheel We made our way to Eyrarbakki We stopped at BONUS along the road Welcomed by the smiling pig The more we walked around the store The more the prices frightened us Even in late July, the wind was cold We pulled our jackets close and looked above Past midnight, the sky was still glowing The white night refused to fade away [Day 2 – Golden Circle] On day two, we toured the Golden Circle A geyser burst into the sky Waterfalls roared beside us We walked along the edge of the earth Crossing cracks in the planet’s surface We felt the heartbeat of the ground On the road toward our stay in Reynir The journey had only just begun [Chorus] Land of fire and ice, Iceland Burning earth beneath a frozen sky Every mile we traveled onward Showed the world a different side [Day 3 – South Coast] Day three, the black sand beach Reynisdrangar rising from the sea Deep inside Hálsanefshellir Cave Nature’s power took our breath away After wandering past waterfalls Jökulsárlón revealed its ice In the cold, we stood in silence Feeling nature’s precious life At Diamond Beach, I held the ice A crystal moment in my hand Then we drove toward Haukafell Across the cold and open land [Day 4 – Hafaldan] Day four, beneath a clear blue sky We drove through overwhelming beauty Stopping here and there along the road To listen to the wind and breathe Mountains, ocean, endless ground More powerful than words could say When we reached our stay at Hafaldan The sky was still a brilliant blue [Day 5 – Puffins] On day five, at Borgarfjarðarhöfn We walked out searching for puffins There were so many, it felt unreal Filling the sky above the sea Their strange calls and curious faces Stole our hearts and stole our time Through waterfalls and hidden caves We continued on to Akureyri [Day 6 – Akureyri and Fagrabrekka] On day six, we wandered through the town With stylish streets and peaceful air A little city on the journey A quiet moment waiting there Then we drove toward Fagrabrekka At the place where we would stay Waterfalls and open meadows All belonged to us that day [Day 7 – Fossatun] Day seven was slow and easy We left the lodge when we were ready Though we followed the final road The island still revealed new faces Every day, the view was changing Even on the roads we knew Toward Fossatun, the journey carried on And the end was coming into view [Bridge] Volcanic red and glacier blue White steam rising from the springs Cold winds and endless highways Every road became a part of everything My first time holding the steering wheel The fear became a memory The island turning counterclockwise Changed the person I used to be [Final Day] On the final day, we took it slowly Enjoying every last view When we returned the rental car Eight days came rushing through Waiting for our flight at the airport We watched the sky beyond the glass With a heart completely full We lifted off and left the land [Final Chorus] Land of fire and ice, Iceland Wild and endless, vast and bright Seven nights, eight days on the road A journey that will stay for life Burning earth and frozen ocean White nights shining through the dark We traveled all around the island And carried home its spark [Outro] Beyond the northern sky We fly toward another land Holding memories of fire and ice Our journey carries on
